The Wisong Scientists Residential District is located in the suburbia of Pyongyang, the capital city of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea.

It is associated with warm affection of Kim Jong Un , general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, who proposed the construction of the district and energetically led the whole process of its construction.

In January Juche 103 (2014), General Secretary Kim Jong Un visited the State Academy of Sciences. Looking round various places of the academy, he said that nothing should be spared for the scientists and technicians, the precious treasures of the country, adding that he would have a modern scientists street built in the Unjong Science Area, where the State Academy of Sciences is located, until the founding anniversary of the WPK that year, as Unha Scientists Street was built the previous year.

When he inspected the construction site where the project was in full swing, the General Secretary examined in detail how the walls and floors of each living room were finished, and how furniture was arranged there. Saying that flawless dwelling houses should be given to the scientists, he instructed that the idea of attaching importance to science and the Juche-oriented idea of architectural beauty of our Party should be reflected in every structure.

Under his great concern, the Wisong Scientists Residential District was wonderfully built with 24 blocks of multi-storeyed apartment buildings, schools, hospital, nursery, kindergarten and other welfare service facilities and parks.

In October Juche 103 (2014) he visited the completed Wisong Scientists Residential District and was very satisfied that all the dwelling houses and public buildings in the district boasted of architectural beauty and excellent formative and artistic quality as required by the new century, adding that the area was changed beyond recognition within a few months. He continued to say that not only the dwelling houses looked cozy and convenient but they were provided with a complete set of quality furniture and fixtures. Then he stated that all the households should be presented with such gifts as TV sets, quilts and other household articles prepared by the Party.

When visiting the Wisong Primary School, he said this was the school where the reserve scientists were trained as the sons and daughters of the scientists of the State Academy of Sciences would study there, adding that the scientific research should be carried forward generation after generation as the revolution is waged by one generation after another.

Looking at a greenboard installed in a classroom, he said it was good to see and asked what would be used for writing on it. Then he touched the surface of a desk and told about the shortcomings. He also looked around various places of the school, including the barber’s, treatment room and indoor swimming pool, to ensure that everything was for the convenience of the schoolchildren.

Noting that the Wisong Scientists Residential District was built not to demonstrate the architecture of the country but to make scientists put their heart and soul into scientific research without feeling any inconveniences, Kim Jong Un stressed the need to give prominence to and treat scientists preferentially and always take good care of them.
