The more devotion I make for the land, the larger crops it produces. I will make sincere efforts of patriotism to this land, the base of our life and the precious treasure of the country to be handed down to the coming generations.
This is favourite remarks of Choe Chun Sil, leader of Workteam No. 4 of the Ryongnim Farm in Mundok County, South Phyongan Province. She is a Deputy to the Supreme People’s Assembly and Labour Hero.
Over four decades ago, she and other young people, who had been unfamiliar with farm work, volunteered to work at the farm after their graduation from a middle school and formed a youth sub-workteam.
She devoted her passion for her home village and increased crop yields. In the course of this, she was promoted to the leader of her youth sub-workteam.
She worked even on holidays and days off to turn idle land into fertile soil, removing weeds and stones and carrying manure and earth. Sometimes, she reclaimed swampy fields until dawn, with a torch in her hand after having a light dinner with a rice ball. By doing so, her youth sub-workteam produced unexpected high grain yields to the wonder of people.
On the day of receiving congratulations from people, she was firmly determined to live her life as a true master of tidal fields and a hero farmer.
After she became a workteam leader, she always thought first of farming and made efforts to become a “true sister” and “mother” of her colleagues who takes care of them rather than her family members.
“Chun Sil is a true farmer who has devoted herself to the land, true to her first pledge,” said Han Chang Bok, a farmer who has worked with her for a long time.
She united her workteam members as members of a family and reaped large crops every year by applying advanced farming methods to rice farming. So, people respect and follow her, calling her a true workteam leader and an extraordinary woman who lives for the sake of others.
Every year her workteam members have donated large quantities of cereals to the country after being given their proportions. Last year they contributed 150 tons of grains.
She, a meritorious person of socialist patriotism, always finds herself in the fields, with a single mind to support the country with increased grain production.
