Kim Song Ho, 54, who works at Ryokpho Polyclinic in Ryokpho District, Pyongyang, is well-known for Koryo therapy.
He has devoted himself to medical treatment for promoting the people’s health.
During the days of studying at Sariwon College of Koryo Pharmacy he made a detailed study of the development history and therapy of Koryo medicine, the traditional medicine of the Korean nation.
After graduation he was assigned to the polyclinic. While conducting medical treatment, he grasped and polished Koryo remedies which are suited to the physical constitution of Koreans one by one and steadily studied Koryo medicines according to various symptoms of diseases.
He applied acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping and other remedies together with Koryo medicaments to cure patients suffering from bronchitis, pneumonia and arthritis, and injected vigour into their life.
Once, a woman came to him with a special-class honoured disabled soldier who was a paraplegic with bedsores.
But he decided to treat the patient without hesitation. Based on scientific examination and relevant remedies, he applied active remedies every day to the patient by combining acupuncture, moxibustion, cupping and Koryo medicaments.
Thanks to his strenuous efforts, the patient began to take for the better after nine months and, afterwards, he could walk alone with the help of a stick.
Kim Song Ho often says: Medicine is a benevolent art. There is no medical treatment apart from love for human beings.
He, together with his colleagues, created herbaries around the polyclinic and on hillocks and collected hundreds of kilograms of such herbs as Lonicera japonica broth and platycodon every year. He produces Koryo medicines and tonics and supply them to merited persons and honoured disabled soldiers.
