President Xi Rejects Confrontation among Camps at International Meetings

Recently, at the 17 th session of the G20 Summit held in Bali, Indonesia, President Xi Jinping of China made a speech to the following effect:
Today, the world is undergoing a changed phase unprecedented in the last 100 years.
Drawing a line of demarcation with ideologies and pursuing confrontation between group politics and camps only divides the world and hinders world development and advancement of humankind.
Human civilization has already entered the 21 st century and cold-war mentality has fallen behind the times.
It is only right that we struggle hand in hand to open up a new stage of cooperation and coexistence.
Every country, rather than inflicting harm upon others and putting up “small fences” of isolation and chauvinism, should coexist peacefully by respecting one another, seeking commonness and leaving differences, thereby promoting the building of an open world economy.
We should resolutely oppose the exploitation of the food and energy problems as a political tool or weapon, withdraw unilateral sanctions, and remove limits in giving scientific and technological assistance.
At the APEC Summit held in Bangkok, Thailand, President Xi said that the Asia-Pacific region is not someone’s backyard and shouldn’t be turned into a venue of confrontation among big powers. He continued to stress that the people as well as the era will not tolerate any kind of plot that pursues a “new cold war”.
Chinese newspaper Global Times carried a commentary which said that the U.S. attempt to incite confrontation between camps in the Asia-Pacific and build “small fences” is doomed to failure in the face of greater public opinion and justice from the world.
