Russian Vice Foreign Minister Condemns Japan for Heading into a Military Power

Rudenko, vice foreign minister of Russia commented on Russia-Japan relations in his recent interview. He condemned the Kishida government for posing a serious threat to the security of Russia and the Asia-Pacific region while abandoning its line on peaceful development and heading for its conversion into a military power.

And he made it clear that it is impossible to conclude a peace treaty with a country that goes unfriendly towards Russia in an overt manner and poses a direct threat to its security.

What he said is an accurate mirror of Russia’s tough and principled stand against Japan which openly incites confrontation against Russia, jumping on the bandwagon of the U.S. that sets sanctions and pressure on fire with the Ukrainian crisis as momentum.

Last year, Japan, while denouncing Russia’s special military operation as a violation of international law, imposed sanctions on several hundreds of Russian political figures including president Putin and foreign minister Lavrov as well as on a staggering 200 Russian companies.

On top of that, Japan staged frequent military exercises in the vicinity of Russian border, provoking unrest in Russia. It also defined Russia as a “serious threat to security” in its recently revised “national security strategy”.

The press and experts are now raising the alarm that Japan’s bid to head for its conversion into a military power causes a serious threat to the world and regional peace. Against this backdrop, Russia already included Japan in its list of unfriendly countries and took corresponding countermeasures. Meanwhile, it is showing its determined will to never tolerate Japan’s hostile actions by announcing its plan to deploy operational tactical missile complex “Iskander” and ground-to-air missile complex “C-400” in southern Kuril Islands.

If Japan continues to cling on to its reckless sanctions and pressure and its unfriendly policy against Russia, Russia will toughen its countermeasures to safeguard its sovereignty, territorial integrity and fundamental interests.
