When they recollect the year 2022, the Korean people are reminded of the name of Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm.

It is not a power station or a factory, but a greenhouse farm whose construction was decided at a plenary meeting of the Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea as a most important construction project, and the word Ryonpho , the name of the place, became as a matter of concern of the whole country.

On February 18, Juche 111 (2022), a ground-breaking ceremony for construction of the greenhouse farm took place.

On the day, the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , general secretary of the WPK, shoveled the first spadeful of earth in commemoration of the ceremony and personally pressed the button for blasting.

The project was a most important construction policy task, for which he had formulated a plan and made preparations from several years ago to supply fresh vegetables to the people in Hamhung, a major industrial and science city of the country, and in South Hamgyong Province.

Previously, Ryonpho, the geographical name of an area, had been kept deep in the mind of Kim Jong Un , when the construction of the Jungphyong Greenhouse Farm was at its height in 2019. Actually, an important military base of the country was located in the area.

In April 2019, while making a field survey of the area, Kim Jong Un unfolded his plan to build a modern greenhouse farm in it bigger than the greenhouse farm that was being built in Jungphyong, Kyongsong County, North Hamgyong Province. And he gave instructions related to its construction several times and guided its designing.

When officials were feeling happy with the construction of the modern Jungphyong Greenhouse Farm, Kim Jong Un had already worked out a plan more gigantic than that, putting his heart and soul to this end.

In January 2022, he inspected the site set for building the Ryonpho Greenhouse Farm.

After being briefed on the master plan of the construction of the farm before the map of its layout and artist’s impression of it, he specified the issues arising in the construction–forming a powerful construction headquarters for pushing forward the project, organizing sector-specific panels, perfecting its design on the highest level, providing building materials and manufacturing the farm’s equipment on a priority basis, intensifying guidance and supervision over the building work, and creating windbreaks and landscaping in a responsible manner.

He then continued: We should select and train technicians and employees for the operation of the greenhouse farm from next year and simultaneously push forward with the provision of vegetable seeds and farm implements and other materials so as to build it as a farm that would make a tangible contribution to the diet of the local people as early as possible, as a model and standard farm in the implementation of the Party’s policy on greenhouse farm construction.

In February that year, he attended the ground-breaking ceremony of the project and made a speech.

True to his grand plan, builders performed a miracle of building the farm in a matter of over 230 days, which demonstrates the civilization of the new era.

The farm consists of over 850 blocks of hydroponic and soil greenhouses covering 280 hectares, over 1 000 dwelling houses, schools, a hall of culture and neighbourhood-serving amenities that retain the local features.

On October 10, 2022, Kim Jong Un cut the ribbon, declaring the inauguration of the greenhouse farm.

That day, he expressed his will to have similar greenhouse farms built in all other provinces, saying that vegetable production should be put on a modern, intensive and industrial footing in such greenhouse farms so as to ensure a plentiful supply of fresh vegetables to the people in the natural climatic conditions of the country.

Another greenhouse farm was in his mind, and it was his firm determination to unfold a sea of greenhouses on this land.

The name Ryonpho will be handed down among the Korean people as a byname of Kim Jong Un ’s love for the people, along with the numerous ideal streets and cultural and leisure activity centres built for the people on this land, including Ryomyong, Mirae Scientists and Songhwa streets, Masikryong Ski Resort and Yangdok Hot Spring Resort.
