Now Haebaragi -brand school things are an inseparable companion of the Korean children. Haebaragi means sunflower in English.

Fruit of Loving Care

Last year, Haebaragi -brand school things were supplied to all orphans, kindergarteners and primary school children in the country on the occasion of the Day of the Shining Star (birthday of Chairman Kim Jong Il on February 16), the greatest national holiday.

They were provided with different pencils, erasers, pencil cases, crayons, watercolour paints and others.

All this is associated with the tender care of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un , who is concerned for providing the rising generations with the best things.

He conceived a plan of building a modern school things factory on his inspection tour of the front line in August Juche 106 (2017). What he kept in his mind was to fill Sonamu-brand satchels of children with quality school things suited to their sentiments.

As his mind was engrossed with the thought of doing even one more thing for the sake of children, he initiated the building of the school things factory and took all necessary measures to this end.

In order to have it built as a model of school things producer and an industrial structure in the new century, he gave meticulous instructions, ranging from the site for the factory building to electricity supply, and sent a powerful construction force of the Korean People’s Army to the project.

The Ryongbong School Things Factory covering an area of over 7 740㎡ was inaugurated in the area of Mt Ryongak in Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang, in October Juche 108 (2019).

Kim Jong Un , who regards the work for the rising generation as the most important of state affairs, paid close attention to Haebaragi -brand school things in the days of presiding over the Fifth Plenary Meeting of the Seventh Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea.

In January Juche 109 (2020), he went over a document related with Haebaragi -brand school things, and took measures for mass-producing quality school things as well as their transport to places far away from Pyongyang on a preferential basis.

As a result, in February Juche 109 (2020), all the preschool-aged children across the country were supplied with these school things.

Haebaragi in Manbok-dong

One February day in Juche 109 (2020), light came from the window of a house in Manbok-dong, the then Sonbong District, Rason, till late at night.

A girl was deep in thought, embracing Haebaragi -brand school things in her bosom.

She was Ri Ye Song, a kindergartener aged 7.

She had lost her parents when her district suffered from flooding several years ago.

On receiving the report on the flood damage in the district, Kim Jong Un , general secretary of the Workers’ Party of Korea, had said that he would feel at ease when he personally looked around rehabilitation sites, and visited the place two times in a month, taking necessary measures to provide the flood victims with a stable life at an earliest possible date.

True to his noble intention, the service personnel of the Korean People’s Army had completely removed the aftermath of natural disaster in a short span of time and built new wonderful houses for the victims. Among them was the one for Ye Song, who was two years old then.

The state had given her a new house lest she feel unhappy and, this time, it supplied quality school things to her like all other kindergarteners in the country.

Returning home with school things under the blessing of her neighbours, she wrote on her new notebook:

“Thank you, respected fatherly Marshal Kim Jong Un . I’ll become a sunflower in Manbok-dong which only follows the sun.”

One of her relatives said in emotion that though her parents died unexpectedly, the warm sunshine of the Party always shines on her.
