The Korean Central News Agency, on February 7, Juche 105 (2016), released a report of the National Aerospace Development Administration of the DPRK under the headline “Successful launch of earth observation satellite Kwangmyongsong -4.” The following is its excerpt:
“…
Carrier rocket Kwangmyongsong blasted off from the Sohae Satellite Launching Station in Cholsan County, North Phyongan Province at 09:00 on February 7, Juche 105 (2016). The satellite entered its preset orbit at 09:09:46, 9 minutes and 46 seconds after the lift-off.
…”
Its successful launch is associated with deep concern and meticulous guidance of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un .
One day in January Juche 105 (2016), he visited the Sohae Satellite Launching Station. Confirming the schedule of satellite launch to the officials, he told them that the launch was important in that it would bring about a radical turn in space exploration, a project the country was doing with its national dignity at stake amid the international interest. He encouraged satellite scientists, saying that the launch is the road of the revolution, the road of independence before the road of science, that it is the firm will of our Party and people and the legitimate right of a sovereign state and that we should launch the satellite with our own determination and will, no matter what others may say.
On the day when he was told that the preparations for the satellite launch were completed, he visited the station again. He said to the space scientists and technicians that the current satellite launch incorporates the history of our Party and revolution and represents the dignity of our people, earnestly calling on them to further raise their sense of responsibility with conscience as Party members to provide the people with the moment of joy and glory.
And on February 6, he issued an autograph order on launching earth observation satellite Kwangmyongsong -4.
On the morning of lunar New Year’s Day several days later, he met with senior officials of the Party Central Committee.
Looking back with deep emotion on the days of his guidance over the satellite launch, he told them that it was not easy to put the satellite into orbit and that he could never forget February 7, the day of successful launch of Kwangmyongsong -4.
After a good while, he said that space developers did a great job indeed, and that the developers who contributed to the successful launch of Kwangmyongsong -4 are patriots rather than scientists.
