The photographed woman with her children, wearing a medal of Labour Hero of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, is Jong Yong Ran living in Ankol Workers’ District, Sungho County, North Hwanghae Province.
She has done nothing special for the country.
She is only a mother with nine children in a miners’ village.
But, in April, the country awarded her with the title of Labour Hero, the highest honour of a citizen, in recognition of her sincere efforts she has made as a woman and a mother to bring up all her children excellently into the pillars who would shoulder the future of the country.
She said to her villagers who congratulated her: I gave birth to children, and they are growing up under the care of the benevolent socialist system. I’ll have no more desire only when my children grow up healthily and repay even a bit the favour of the country, cherishing its benefits deep in their mind.
Five of her nine children have volunteered to serve in the army or work faithfully in different fields of the national economy.
