The parka worn by Chairman Kim Jong Il is still kept in his office room in the train coach used by him, preserved in the Kumsusan Palace of the Sun, the supreme temple of Juche.
Anyone who sees it is moved to tears as if he or she thought that Kim Jong Il , who was working in the room all night long, has just left it for a moment.
The parka is associated with a moving story.
On February 18, Juche 95 (2006), Kim Jong Il met with commanding officers of the Korean People’s Army. He then said that it was more than ten years since he had set out on the long journey of Songun in earnest.
Now, looking at his parka, he said that he had so far worn it since he set out on the Arduous March after the loss of President Kim Il Sung , and that he had continuously inspected KPA units and factories and rural villages across the country, wearing it for over ten years.
Once, officials earnestly told the Chairman to wear a new parka as he was still wearing the discoloured one while continuing a tour for inspecting the frontline units and giving on-the-spot guidance.
Still, he continued his field guidance tour, wearing his old one, its sleeves and colour being worn out and faded.
Later, her, being lost in deep thought while looking back upon the days, said: My parka is symbolic of the Songun revolution and of the Arduous March. I am still wearing it because I cannot forget the history of trials.
After a while, he added that some officials were trying hard to make a good parka for me, but he liked this old one familiar to the service personnel and people and that he would continue the long journey of Songun, wearing it in the future, too.
Like this, Kim Jong Il led the Korean revolution to victory, wearing it alone to the last days of his life.
