The Sci-Tech Complex in the shape of atom is located on Ssuk Islet in the Taedong River which meanders through the centre of Pyongyang.
In 2014, General Secretary Kim Jong Un came to the spot where dust was blowing by the river wind to guide the development project on the islet. He was determined to build on the islet, which is associated with the leadership exploits of President Kim Il Sung, a sci-tech diffusion base for all the people of the country, he said, calling for turning the islet into an island of science.
And he stressed the need to splendidly build the complex into a dear home which all the people, as well as scientists, technicians, researchers and university students, visit to acquire knowledge to their heart’s content.
In a little more than a year since then, the islet has changed dramatically along with the Sci-Tech Complex, a temple for all-people learning, and people call it an islet of science and an islet of learning.
