Among the members of the amateur art group of the Korean Art Association of the Disabled, there are talented ones.

A blind singer

During their tour performance this year, a blind singer added brilliance to the performance by wonderfully rendering a solo and guitar accompaniment.

She is An Ryu Song, aged 27.

According to Cha Hyok, secretary general of the association, she was diagnosed with congenital retinal pigment degeneracy at the age of seven.

Doctors said her eyesight would gradually get worse.

From the time she studied at a middle school after graduating from a primary school, her eyes became sensitive only to the light.

But as she was persistent and competitive, she did not regard herself as a person with disabilities.

One day the music teacher of her middle school listened to her singing in class and found that she had an exceptionally beautiful voice and musical sense. She asked her to join the music group at the school.

At the group she learned singing and playing the guitar.

Looking back upon the time, her mother Jang Kyong Ok said that it was the greatest hope for her daughter to sing on the stage.

Later, thanks to the state policy she attended the Vocational Training School for Persons with Disabilities.

After graduating form the school, she came to realize her dream and hope at the Korean Art Association of the Disabled from the year 2017.

A disabled magician

Won Song Min, 27, is a disabled man with an inborn hearing impairment. He is a dancer and the only magician of the association.

Here is a story about how he acquired dexterity.

One day when he was 12 years old, his father Won Ryong Chol, an actor of the National Acrobatic Troupe, paid attention to the behaviour of his son. The young boy was imitating his performing magic tricks on the stage.

As his son was gifted with broad mind, extraordinary memory and dexterity, the father decided to hand over his skills to his son.

From then, the boy began to learn magic from his stern and careful father.

After graduating from a school, he first received specialized training in basic dance movements and magic at the Korean Art Association of the Disabled.

According to Kim Son Yong, a choreographer, the association once invited even Kim Kwang Sok, a famous magician in the country, to further refine his magic movements and inspire his creative zeal.

In those days, his magic skills developed day by day.

He presented several magic works to the acclaim of the audience after his premiere in 2013.
