The metallurgical industry sector, which is out for implementing the tasks set forth at the Ninth Plenary Meeting of the Eighth Central Committee of the Workers’ Party of Korea, is consolidating the foundations for iron and steel production by pushing ahead with the Juche-oriented projects in line with its plan for reinforcement and readjustment.
Last year the Hwanghae Iron and Steel Complex built new-type medium-frequency induction furnaces in an effort to put the production of iron and steel on the Juche basis, and now steps up the project for building an energy-saving oxygen blast furnace.
Following the installation of a continuous casting machine, the Chollima Steel Complex has worked out detailed plans and concentrated efforts on establishing the processes for the production of molten iron by electric furnace, the ladle refining and the continuous rolling.
The Chongjin Steel Works has already set up a new production process and built a vertical furnace for oxidizing roasting pellet to provide a reliable material and technical guarantee for ramping up the output. Now it directs efforts into completing technical preparations for increasing the production of roasting pellet by positively adopting rational techniques to operate the furnace and technically upgrading some pieces of equipment.
Meanwhile, it steps up the designing of accessories and parts to be newly made according to a plan to overhaul the rotary kilns in the shortest possible time, and works to find a technical way to raise the temperatures of rotary kilns as high as possible and increase their lifespan.
The Posan Iron Works has gone into overdrive to construct a vertical furnace for oxidizing roasting pellet in a bid to satisfy the growing demand of metallurgical works.
