On December 24 last year, Kim Un Suk, resident in Munchon City, Kangwon Province, gave birth to boy triplets at the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, which the Korean women call “parents’ home.” The triplets are the 545th in the hospital since its establishment over 40 years ago.
In the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, women who are confirmed to be pregnant with triplets or quadruplets are admitted to the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital and receive special care and benefits from the state for more than six months there until they leave it.
Last year alone, 20 triplets left the hospital.
Kim Kwang Suk, living in Okchang-ri, Nyongbyon County, North Phyongan Province, gave birth to the 544th triplets at the hospital and left it on February 1.
The babies weighed 2.03 kg, 1.97 kg and 1.79 kg respectively at the time of birth, but they grew to over 4 kg when leaving the cradle of happiness.
The state presents triplets and quadruplets and their parents with ornamental silver daggers and gold rings according to sex and supplies them with various kinds of foodstuffs, nutrients and clothes.
