Spokesperson for Chinese Foreign Ministry Denounces U.S. and Other Countries’ Criticism at “Regulations on Defending National Security”

Recently, the spokesperson for Chinese Foreign Ministry expressed strong dissatisfaction and opposition as the U.S., Japan and some other countries criticized the “regulations on defending national security” adopted in Hong Kong.
Saying that the “regulations on defending national security” unanimously adopted by the legislative assembly of Hong Kong Special Administrative Region is an important milestone in developing the work of “one country, two systems” that has entered the new course in the new era as it ensures further implementation of the special administrative region’s responsibility stipulated in the constitution related with defending of the national security and enhances the basis of security for the development of Hong Kong, the spokesperson continued as follows:
Security is a prerequisite for development, and rule of law is a cornerstone for prosperity.
The government of China remains steadfast in its decision to safeguard the sovereignty, security and developmental interests of the country, to carry out the “one country, two systems” policy and to oppose the interference of any outside forces in Hong Kong issue.
Any attempt to slander and tarnish the “regulations on defending national security” will be doomed to failure.
