Choe Suk Myong is a prestigious creator who has devoted all her wisdom to the creation of mass gymnastics for over five decades at the Mass Gymnastics Production Company under the National Cultural Events Bureau.
Born into an ordinary worker’s family, she started her career of creation of mass gymnastics in Juche 59 (1970).
After graduation from a university, she devoted herself to the education of the rising generation before she was assigned to the Mass Gymnastics Production Company. She took part in the creation of Scene 2 of Act 3 “We are the happiest in the world” of the mass gymnastics “Under the Banner of the Workers’ Party of Korea” to be given on the occasion of the Fifth Congress of the WPK.
She completed her work into a new and unique one with perfect ideological and artistic qualities in conformity with the aspirations and demands of the people.
The girl creator in her twenties made redoubled efforts to create the masterpieces of the times loved by the people, including “40 Years Traversed by the Republic”, “The Sunshine of Juche” and “The Shining Korea”.
When she was spending days and months for the successful performance of mass gymnastics for tens of times, the state dispatched her abroad to disseminate the Korean-style mass gymnastics.
She also created in a peculiar way Scene 1 of Act 4 “My hometown with larks singing” of the mass gymnastics “Following the Party Forever”, which was staged on February 16, Juche 81 (1992).
In those days, she grew up to be a creator with seasoned directing skills and creative insight. She made a great contribution to demonstrating the prosperous socialist Korea by successfully perfecting into masterpieces such works as People’s Prize winner “The People Sing of Their Leader” and grand mass gymnastics and artistic performance “Ever-Victorious Workers’ Party of Korea” and “Arirang”, both Kim Il Sung Prize winners.
In appreciation recognition of her contribution to the development of mass gymnastics, the state awarded her Kim Il Sung Prize and the title of People’s Athlete and invited her to national celebrations and conferences several times.
“The aspiration to something new must be about creation and the height of civilization” —this is the motto of Suk Myong in her 80s.
She is still devoting her wisdom and enthusiasm for creative activities, full of youthful vigour.
