The people are teachers and the main motive force behind the revolution. Regarding this as his unshakable faith and motto, President Kim Il Sung adorned his decades-long leadership of the Korean revolution with people-oriented policies.
The people who he valued most and held as his “God” were by no means superhuman beings or a group of some privileged persons.
Workers, peasants and intellectuals were all his people and his heaven.
He founded the party, the state and the army for the sake of his people.
Accordingly, he built the Workers’ Party of Korea into a working-class party which defends their interests in the most thoroughgoing way, the state power into a political weapon which realizes their demands, and a revolutionary army into a powerful armed force which firmly defends their sovereignty and security, and developed Korean-style socialism into a people-centred one.
His cherished, greatest desire was to provide his people with the happiest life in the world.
Once he saw a rare chicken with long colourful furs at its heels.
Looking at it carefully as if he was attracted by it, he asked an official how many eggs it lays a year. He was so disappointed at the reply and said earnestly in the following vein: A hen should a good layer, and a fine-looking hen is of no use. I will come every day if there is any prolific layer, even though it might be ugly-looking. I wish I have a good hen which lays 400 eggs a year. Then, it would be possible to provide our people with large numbers of eggs.
One August day in Juche 47 (1958), he got aboard a ship to Panwol Islet on the Taedong River. After looking for a while at rocks standing like folding screens at the riverside, he said they were Okryu Cliffs, a very good site for a building, and stressed the need to build a Korean-style restaurant which would go well with the scenery of the river and look like floating in the water, and to present it to the people. And he named it Okryu Restaurant.
Noting that he should go wherever there are people, he visited a farm village in the northern tip of the country, pushing his car inch by inch along a muddy road, went round fields till after midday and had his late lunch with green maize.
As seen above, every nook and cranny of the country is associated with his devoted efforts for the people’s wellbeing.
