DPRK wrestlers Kim Ji Hyang and Ro Yu Chol bagged gold medals at the 2024 Asian Wrestling Championships.
The championships, which opened in Kyrgyzstan on April 11, have brought together more than 360 men and women players selected from 20-odd countries and regions including the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea, China and Kazakhstan.
Kim Ji Hyang in the women’s 53kg event thrashed her Mongolian rival 10-0 in the preliminary on April 14 and Uzbek rival 12-2 in the quarterfinals and Vietnamese rival 8-0 in the semifinals.
In the final she beat her Indian rival 10-0 and took the first place.
Ro Yu Chol defeated all his rivals to claim the men’s greco-roman 55kg event on April 15.
Meanwhile, O Kyong Ryong finished runner-up in the women’s 55kg event, Kim Kum Hyok and Ri Kum Chol placed third in men’s freestyle 57kg and 61kg events, Hwang Yong Ok and Yun Hyon Ju third in women’s 50kg and 57kg events and Kim Chan third in the men’s greco-roman 63kg events.
