Among the gifts on display in the National Gifts Exhibition House of the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea is a double-faced embroidery folding screen “Flowers and birds.”
It was presented to the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un in January Juche 108 (2019) by an overseas Korean, who is the general manager of a limited company in China on his visit to the DPRK.
Captivated by the personality of Kim Jong Un leading the Korean people to victory with his far-sighted wisdom, the general manager decided to present a gift representing his boundless reverence for him.
He selected a picture drawn by a famous painter and completed the work by mobilizing competent embroiderers and craftsmen in his region.
The first screen on the right depicts two doves perching on a rock where red and yellow flowers bloom, which means peace; the second, three grosbeaks on Mumeplant, which means wealth and fame; the third, two parrots on a shoeflower, which means friendship; and the fourth, three larks on a rock and flowering trees, which means an auspicious event.
The frame of embroidery is made of annatto tree, and a crown, peach and brass coin are embossed in the centre of the lower part of each frame, meaning that the DPRK will develop into the most prosperous country in the world.
