Efforts are being made to effectively improve rivers across the DPRK amid the active spring land administration work.
“It is important to carry out the river improvement plan in time in the spring land management for this year. Therefore, provinces, cities, counties and relevant units have fully mobilized facilities and forces in the improvement of rivers that are highly prone to flood damage in order to minimize the damage in the rainy season,” said Ryang Chol Min, section chief of the Ministry of Land and Environment Protection.
Pyongyang Municipality is stepping up the improvement of the ecological environment of the Pothong River.
The field command team speeded up the project for improving the ecological environment of Pothong River by introducing effective and rational methods of remarkably increasing the speed of mud digging and removal, thus removing tens of thousands of cubic metres of mud in the section of over 3 000 metres in a short span of time.
Kujang County, which benefited much from river improvement projects last year, drew up a plan for finishing dredging and repair of dams in different sections of the Chongchon River this year and is carrying out building operation while ensuring high scientific accuracy of designs.
Unsan County puts a big effort into the building of thousands-of-metre-long dams while dredging rivers. The project is of great significance as it is to acquire dozens of hectares of new land and protect farmland from floods by conserving the Kuryong River. At present, rivers have been straightened and dams are being stretched steadily and thereby the county has taken on a new appearance.
Besides, river-dredging is carried on efficiently in Phyongsan, Koksan and Unpha counties and Sariwon City in North Hwanghae Province.
