Ri Ki Hyon, concrete tamping workshop manager of the Kangdong Hydropower Station Construction Complex, has a map he keeps as an heirloom.
He was involved in the construction of a number of hydropower stations, namely the Taedonggang Power Station, Thaechon Power Station, Namgang Power Station, Huichon Power Station and Ryesonggang Power Station.
On the map the locations of the power stations are marked with red stars, which showcase more than 40 years of his career.
Seeing the stars on the map, he always tells his colleagues: “When I mark a star on the map after finishing a project, I feel proud at the thought that I have played my part in providing an asset for the country and the younger generation.”
It was a long journey of life. After military service he devoted himself to the construction of hydroelectric plants over the decades. But he never regretted his chosen career.
He unsparingly shed sweat out of patriotism for the prosperity of the country in pursuit of an ideal and ambition to harness all the waterways of the country for power generation and make the future of the country brighter and more beautiful.
During the worthwhile period, he came up with scores of inventions and new ideas, particularly a member assembling method that helps shorten the period of dam construction, thus making a great contribution to the construction of power stations.
In recognition of his lifelong devotion, he was invited as a delegate to national conferences and awarded the title of Labour Hero. He is now one of the meritorious persons of socialist patriotism, an honour dedicated to exemplary working people.
He said it is his greatest desire and happiness to devote his all to the construction of power plants for the country and people.
