The U.S. is now aggravating tensions, introducing intermediate and shorter-range missiles into Europe and the Asia Pacific. It is a deliberate violation of the Treaty on the Elimination of Intermediate-Range and Shorter-Range Missiles, the basis of global security and strategic stability.
Vice Foreign Minister Riabkov said that Russia’s nuclear doctrine has clearly stipulated the possibility of preemptive use of nuclear weapons, which still remains intact.
He also warned: Russia’s enemies should remember that their policy of aggravating tensions will only reinforce Russia’s nuclear deterrent measures. He went on to note that Russia’s tactical nuclear weapons drill is also one of such measures.
On May 6, Russian Foreign Ministry also released a statement to the effect that no matter when or where Russia catches sight of the American ground-based intermediate and shorter-range missiles, Russia will respond with reflexive measures.
The statement also indicated that Russia will dynamically push ahead with the completion of analogous missile complexes and start the production.
