“The weight of gold medal is that of beads of sweat.”
This is what Kwon Kyong Suk, an instructor of the table-tennis group at Mangyongdae District Extracurricular Sports School in the capital city of Pyongyang, always says to her students.
Thanks to her devoted efforts, the school, which had been lagging behind in the city in women’s table tennis event over ten years ago, has developed into the one which trains promising reserve players.
Her exacting demand supported by scientific training is a foundation for helping young players prepare themselves as gold medalists.
Students she brought up have won many gold medals in scores of games including the table tennis event at the 59th national juvenile sports school games (at that time) by displaying various special techniques such as sharp serving and right and left drive.
Among her disciples are many sportspersons who are loved by people and cut a conspicuous figure as competent table tennis players.
Kwon designed and developed a program, which analyzes table tennis games, at leisure times with a determination to contribute to developing the country’s sports. The program was highly appreciated at the 24th and 25th national exhibition of sports sci-tech achievements held in 2022 and 2023.
