The Kumgangsan Specialities Company, inaugurated on August 26, Juche 93 (2004), is involved in the sale and export of various kinds of edible herbs, processed wild fruits and honey products at home and abroad. It also engages in exchange with foreign partners.
Its main products include dried Ganoderma lucidum , osmund and songi mushroom, native bee honey, Kumgangsan liquor and propolis extracts.
Ganoderma lucidum belonging to Polyporaceae is widely known as the elixir of life, or a good health food for its remarkable anti-cancer, anti-oxidative and immunity-stimulating effects.
Besides, edible herbs (roots and leaves) and wild fruits rich in vitamins and minerals, are commonly used as Koryo medicinal materials and health foods.
The products of the company are in great demand at the domestic and international markets as they are made of natural raw materials gathered from the forests of Mt Kumgang, one of the celebrated mountains of the DPRK.
Its natural health products have been presented to an international trade fair in China since 2015.
Hwawon , a trademark of the company, was registered by the WIPO in September 2017 and by a Chinese agency in October 2022. Another trademark Kumgangsan earned a Chinese registration in June 2021.
“It is our goal to make local specialties iconic enough to secure their future as well,” says Pang Ryon Sim, CEO of the company.
