Rich in national flavour, the dance is a romantic kind of group dance the Korean peasants have danced to the tune of the peasant music from olden times.
Yonbaek peasant dance is a folk dance which was created in the Yonbaek Plain area covering the area of Chongdan, Yonan and Paechon counties on the southeastern seashore of South Hwanghae Province and has been handed down through a long historical period.
As the Yonbaek Plain area is one of the major granaries of the country, peasant dance inspiring the peasants in their work and demonstrating the unity of the collective was on a much higher level of development in the area than in other parts of the country.
The dance is not only danced by agricultural workers during breaks at their work or on folk holidays but also staged on national anniversaries and in major celebrations.
It was inscribed on the national intangible cultural heritage list in November Juche 102 (2013).
