On the occasion of the national exhibition of sci-tech achievements by young people the first Sci-tech Youth Prize was awarded to young people for their outstanding efforts for production and in academic research.
The honourees included a researcher at the Automation Institute under the State Academy of Sciences who had established an integrated automation system for the crystal thenardite production line, a researcher at the Faculty of Chemistry of Kim Il Sung University who had made an achievement of great practical value, researchers at Chongjin O Jung Hup University of Education who had carried out research tasks conducive to making the metallurgical industry Juche-based and those at the Jongju Chicken Institute under the Academy of Poultry who had provided a scientific and technological guarantee for the development of the country's poultry farming by establishing a method for treating a poultry pandemic.
The prize was also awarded to many other young people, including researchers at Pyongyang College of Medical Sciences and South Phyongan Provincial General Hospital, and a researcher at the Ferrous Metal Institute under the State Academy of Sciences who had contributed to solving sci-tech problems arising in the fields of material engineering, agriculture, aquaculture, textile and information and communications.
