Established in April Juche 96 (2007) the Korean Seismic and Volcanic Association is a social sci-tech body which helps share, transfer and introduce research achievements gained in the seismic and volcanic sector and strengthen cooperation among relevant sectors, thus making a contribution to the development of the sector.
Through regular national sci-tech presentations in the seismic and volcanic sector the association is intensifying joint research and academic exchanges in the basic theory and application in the seismic and volcanic sector with scientific institutes such as the State Academy of Sciences and Seismic Administration and educational institutions including Kim Il Sung University.
Research achievements conducive to putting the prediction and forecast of earthquake and volcano including the volcano of Mt Paektu on a scientific footing and improving the modernization level of observation equipment were made public at the national sci-tech presentation in the seismic and volcanic sector held in April last year on the theme of “Practicality of earthquake and volcano prediction and forecast” and at the symposium on geological and biological diversity in the area of Mt Paektu held in last July.
In the past the association has strengthened international exchanges and cooperation, a typical example being the joint research into the volcano of Mt Paektu and other elements of the geology of the country with scientists from different countries.
