An international conference on education was held in Geneva, Switzerland, in October 1994, involving delegates from over 100 countries. According to the unanimous demand and agreement of the participants, the conference designated October 5 as the world day of teachers.
As science and technology rapidly develop and play an increasingly important role in social life at present, education is regarded as an undertaking indispensable in drawing a plan for national development and promoting exchanges and cooperation among countries.
Therefore, many countries spare nothing for improving the quality, conditions and environment of education.
The DPRK is also paying primary attention to education in keeping with the trend of world educational development.
A well-knit teachers’ training system is established across the country and the climate of giving preferential treatment to teachers pervades the country. Modern apartment flats on Ryomyong and Mirae Scientists streets were provided to teachers.
And great importance is attached to teachers training colleges.
Projects to improve the educational conditions and environment at the colleges in different parts of the country are dynamically pushed forward.
The colleges strive to develop and introduce research-type teaching methods and research-type studying methods and conduct various other undertakings to improve the educational contents and methods as required by the times.
Cherishing the pride that they are career revolutionaries, the teachers in the DPRK render great services to training talented personnel for several sectors and achieving social development.
Many graduates from teachers’ training colleges also contribute to the education of rising generations by volunteering for mountainous villages and branch schools in remote islets.
