In the Democratic People’s Republic of Korea women with many children are given all kinds of social benefits.
Such women are honoured with the titles of Hero and Communist Mother.
According to an official at the Hwasong District People’s Committee of Pyongyang, preferential treatment measures by the state for families with many children include the supply of dwelling houses.
At present the work of providing those families with houses is proceeding on an annual basis across the country. In Pyongyang alone the flats built every year are offered to them on a preferential basis.
Choe Un Gyong and her six children have recently moved into Neighbourhood Unit No. 27, Kumnung-dong No. 2, Hwasong District in the newly built Rimhung Street. Her family had lived in a single-storey flat in Taedonggang District without feeling any inconveniences. However, the state provided the family with the new flat before any others.
Many other similar families have also been given new flats on Rimhung Street in Hwasong District.
In addition, the state has taken measures for the women with the certificate of a family with many children and their children to receive preferential medical services at central and other levels of hospitals.
Kim Su Hyang attended the Fifth National Conference of Mothers held in December last year in the presence of the respected Comrade Kim Jong Un and had a photograph taken with him. She is now expecting her sixth baby. She often says that she will give birth to more children and bring them up as soldiers defending the benevolent country.
There is a saying which goes that a mother with a large brood never has a peaceful day. The saying likens the hard life of women with many children to a tree with many twigs exposed to constant wind. Yet, the Korean mothers find the worth, joy and pride of their life in giving birth to many children and bringing them up as strong pillars for the prosperity of their country under the people-oriented policies of their socialist system.
