There lives an old woman called Ri Jong Nyo in Neighbourhood Unit No. 35, Konguk-dong, Mangyongdae District, Pyongyang.
Her eldest daughter is 80 and her last born is 60. All her children have grandchildren.
This year Ri is 101 years old. She often tells her children about her past life.
When the country was under the Japanese military occupation (1905-1945), she was forced to toil away at a mine to support her family since her childhood.
After the country was liberated on August 15, 1945, she could lead a happy life. While working in the field of food processing industry, she got married to a diligent and generous man and gave birth to nine children. All her children graduated from universities and colleges and took up important posts in various fields such as science, education, public health, construction and physical culture and sports. Even after they retired, they have been voluntarily working for the good of their country.
Even their children and grandchildren have received tertiary education and started their careers. University or college graduates in Ri’s family exceed 30.
O Yong Hae, Ri’s fifth child, said that all her siblings take good care of their mother, always concerned about whether she has lost her appetite or she is in poor health. Ri’s neighbours are envious of her harmonious family with a high sense of respecting and filial duties.
Ri often asks her descendants to work hard for the country’s prosperity.
