President Kim Il Sung visited the People’s Republic of China from October 3 to 15, 1991.

On his way to Jiangsu Province by train on October 10 as part of his itinerary for regional visit he reminded the accompanying officials that the day was the founding anniversary of the Workers’ Party of Korea and continued:

October 10 is the day when we decided to form the Down-with-Imperialism Union in Huadian. On October 10, 1926 when I was attending Hwasong Uisuk School, I held a meeting together with Choe Chang Gol, Kim Won U, Kye Yong Chun and about ten others by a river, while washing clothes and eating autumn radishes. On the day we promised to form the organization.

We founded the DIU on October 17, the next Sunday. It was also October 10 when we founded the Party after the country’s liberation. So the day when the formation of the DIU was decided coincided with the day when the WPK was founded.

Kim Il Sung embarked on the road of revolutionary struggle in his teens, shouldering the destiny of the country and nation. Keenly realizing that national liberation and independence could not be achieved through the preceding nationalist movement and the early communist movement stained with scramble for greater influence, factional strife, flunkeyism and dogmatism, he worked heart and soul to explore a new road of struggle different from the old approaches. Finally he formed the DIU on October 17, 1926 with sturdy young people of a new generation who shared the same ideology and intention.

The organization set as its immediate task the destruction of Japanese imperialism and achievement of Korea’s liberation and independence, with the ultimate aim of building socialism and communism in Korea and, further, destroying all imperialism and building communism throughout the world.

With the DIU’s formation the Korean revolution made a new start in its development and the WPK began to strike its glorious roots.

The programme of the DIU served as the basis of the programme of the Party founded soon after the country’s liberation on August 15, 1945, and the Party adopted the principle of independence put forward by the DIU as the principle of its founding and activities. The new-generation communists trained by the DIU constituted the backbone of the Party founding.

For decades ever since it began to strike its roots with the formation of the DIU, the WPK has performed great exploits, which will shine century after century, on the road of its struggle and grown into a powerful, revolutionary party with rock-solid unity and rich experience.

The WPK enjoys the absolute trust and support of all the Korean people for the immortal exploits it has accomplished for the country and people and for the times and history.

Today it has been strengthened organizationally and ideologically more than ever before as the seasoned General Staff of the Korean revolution and leads the cause of modelling the whole society on the Juche idea with a conviction in the validity and victory of its cause.
