The DPRK has built and advanced Juche-based socialism by eliminating centuries-old backwardness and poverty inherited from the old society on the strength of science and technology from one century to the next racing against the time.

In the initial days of nation building, Comrade Kim Il Sung (April 15, 1912-July 8, 1994) ushered in a new era in which the Korean people paved their way by dint of science and wisely led their efforts in this regard.

He led his people to overcome passivism, conservatism and the mysticism about technology and create a happy life by their own efforts. Thanks to his leadership, they could manufacture trucks, excavators, tractors and electric locomotives in the 1950s and 1960s, which were monopolies of a few developed countries and brought about miracles and innovations on all fronts of socialist construction.

In each period and stage of developing revolution he ensured that science and technology of the country were developed in an original way and the economy, national defence and culture were built by dint of science and technology. Under his guidance, the country completed socialist industrialization in a short period of time and achieved brilliant successes in putting the national economy on a Juche, modern and scientific basis.

Chairman Kim Jong Il (February 16, 1942-December 17, 2011) also opened a broad avenue for national prosperity by dint of science and technology. In order to build a knowledge-based economic power, he put forward science and technology as one of the three pillars in building a powerful socialist country and defined it as a strategic line of the Workers' Party of Korea to attach importance to science and technology.

He made public many works clarifying the ways for rapidly developing education. He visited Kim Il Sung University, Kim Chaek University of Technology and many other universities of the country, setting grand objectives for the development of education and leading them to bring about innovations and leaps forward in their education work.

While ensuring that all the problems arising in the revolution and construction were solved by relying on science and technology, he energetically led the efforts to raise the country's science and technology to the cutting-edge standard. In the 1990s the DPRK could attain the position as a world’s leader in the CNC machine-tool industry and become a country capable of manufacturing and launching satellite. The country owes all this to his painstaking efforts.

The respected Comrade Kim Jong Un is an outstanding leader of the development of Juche-oriented science. He adds eternal brilliance to the exploits of President Kim Il Sung and Chairman Kim Jong Il and ushers in a new world of the people by dint of science and technology.

Nurturing a far-reaching plan to make his into a country of education and talents, he put forward the slogan "Let us make a leap forward by dint of science and guarantee the future by dint of education!" and clearly indicated the tasks and ways for accelerating the building of a sci-tech power and a talent power.

He ensured the universal 12-year compulsory education was enforced, further perfecting the general secondary education system. Just like a parent of students, he took measures to provide them with everything necessary for their studies. He had excellent apartment houses, residential districts and holiday camps built for teachers, researchers and scientists. And he put forward the policy of making all the people well versed in science and technology, so that the climate of attaching importance to science and talents prevailed across the country.

When he inspects farms he enthusiastically talks about scientific farming and when he guides the sports sector he stresses the need to put sports on a scientific basis. When giving field guidance to the forestry sector, he discussed the scientific forest management system and when visiting fish farms he teaches the global trend of fish farming science.

If he, during his visit to a factory, learns that the workers who received the online education had played a role in the factory’s modernization projects, Kim Jong Un is very pleased. Seeing the future of a sci-tech power in the development of ordinary working people, he initiated the construction of the Sci-Tech Complex to bring earlier the future. And at the inaugural ceremony of the complex, he said that the New Year begun with science.

He often sends scientists and technicians a lot of materials on cutting-edge technology for reference and when he is told that a new scientific and technological success has been achieved, he immediately goes down to the relevant unit. He teaches the importance of science and technology and gives his advice on science and technology during his field guidance. In this way he ensures science and technology leads the times, accelerating the comprehensive development of socialism.

His leadership brought about a great change in the development of space science and technology, an ensemble and essence of cutting-edge science and technology. The DPRK successfully launched its first application satellite “Kwangmyongsong 3-2” on December 12, 2012 and the earth observation satellite “Kwangmyongsong-4” on February 7, 2016.

Kim Jong Un saw to it that advanced valuable space development programmes were implemented on a priority basis in the light of the strategic interests of the state. He established a system whereby the educational and scientific research institutes at different levels actively participate in the efforts to develop satellites for various purposes and took measures to increase state investment, so as to promote the development of space science and technology.

He also set the possession of military reconnaissance satellite as an essential prerequisite for further bolstering up the self-defensive deterrents of the DPRK to cope with the US and its vassal forces' persistent nuclear war threats and provocative acts of aggression against it and for defending its sovereignty and security and took all measures for its successful realization.

Thanks to his energetic and wise leadership, the DPRK’s first military reconnaissance satellite “Malligyong-1” was successfully launched on November 21, 2023 and started operation.

Indeed, all the achievements made by the Korean people and the precious fruits of their efforts for national prosperity are the brilliant results born of the wise leadership of the peerlessly great men who put forward the idea of attaching importance to science and technology and worked heart and soul to realize it in each period and at each stage of the revolution and construction.

Under his wise leadership, the DPRK has made proud successes one after another in the drive to break through the cutting edge, accelerating the struggle to build a powerful socialist country where all its people are well-off.
