In recent years students at Nampho Middle School No. 1 have cut a conspicuous figure at national academic contests.
They took the first place at national academic contests and various exhibitions including national children’s science fictions and models exhibition-2023 and national children’s science fiction models and inventions exhibition-2024 held last year and this year.
Behind this success are the painstaking efforts of O Song Sim to improve the academic performance of her students.
Soon after she was appointed the school’s principal, she looked into the state of the school and learned that the school’s teaching staff was composed mainly of young teachers.
She thought that if they were motivated, they could possibly raise the level of the school’s education. She paid close attention to improving the quality of the teaching by the young teachers.
First of all, she attached paramount importance to inspecting classes. As the saying goes “Seeing is believing,” she could get a correct understanding of the teaching methods and abilities of every teacher during the inspections. The inspections helped her analyze the teaching activities of the teachers in depth and take corresponding measures combined with scientific guidance.
This approach proved very effective. As the inspections of classes intensified, the teachers found out what was needed for the diversification and practical application of educational contents. They shared constructive opinions with each other in this regard and voluntarily applied them in teaching. This resulted in a marked improvement of the young teachers in their qualifications, which in turn brought about remarkable progress in the academic performance of most of the students. The new methods of giving lessons and assessing students’ performance that were developed by the teachers have been propagated across the country.
Many teachers held academic degrees and won the title of model teacher.
“One step taken simultaneously by a hundred persons is much more important than a hundred steps by a single person. A simultaneous progress made by all teaching staff of the school, though it is a single step, is more significant in improving the academic performance of the students,” said O.
