The Komdok Mining Complex has set up a new transport system at deep underground faces to provide a sure guarantee for increased production.
In the past the complex transported ores by trams in an 8km-long section. But it has installed long-distance conveyor belts, making it possible to transport the ores produced at underground faces in the deep and upper zones.
It is more than ten years ago that the plan for upgrading the system of transporting ores was proposed.
As about 100 kinds of materials were needed for running trams and mine cars, the plan, if realized, would make it possible to increase ore transport by more than two times while saving a lot of manpower, equipment, materials and electricity.
But it was not an easy project.
The plan presupposed a hundreds-of-metre-long tunnel for the belts, a scores-of-metre-long shaft for equipment, a ground for large crushers and an ore unloading ground.
The workload was equivalent to that for building a factory above the ground.
As the complex had to concentrate on production in hand, it put the proposal aside.
Then, one day in 2017, the tunnel for carrying the ore in the upper zone was deformed so severely under earth pressure that it seemed to be used no longer.
Given the situation, the officials of the complex pooled their wisdom to find the optimum construction method with less investment.
Finally, they completed a design in such a way as to raise productivity by more than two times while considerably reducing the investment for upgrading the transport system.
Soon afterwards the project schedule was announced and a construction force formed.
Many obstacles and difficulties cropped up, but the officials and miners persevered. They invented a new method of easily removing the spoil at the construction site of the ground for large crushers and introduced original and bold construction methods. At the same time, they pushed ahead with the assembling and installation of crushers, winches, ore unloaders and other pieces of equipment.
The new ore transport system was commissioned with due ceremony on October 3.
