It is a well-known fact that when triplets are born in the DPRK, a female baby is awarded a gold ring and male a silver dagger and they are looked after at the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital until they weigh more than 4kg and then the responsibility comes over to baby homes built across the country until they are four years old. But many people probably do not know that the childcare department at the Okryu Children’s Hospital has a list of check-ups for triplets across the country.
The list contains details about the health, nutrition and treatment of all the triplets under 16.
The contents, which are updated every year, include the data of check-ups the paediatrists of hospitals at all levels conducted for preschool triplets four times a year and for the primary and middle school triplets twice a year.
The database enables the Okryu Children’s Hospital to have a full understanding of the health indexes of all the triplets in the country and ensure that those with any signs of growth and health problems are immediately sent to the provincial children’s hospitals and Okryu Children’s Hospital.
In addition, medical workers at the hospital travel the country every year checking the health conditions of triplets.
This year alone, they visited and examined the 16-year-old triplets, Ri Kang Song, Ri Tae Song and Ri Kuk Song, in Sowon-ri, Pyoksong County, South Hwanghae Province.
Local check-ups took them to North Phyongan, North and South Hwanghae, Jagang and other provinces.
A department chief of the hospital said that the benevolent socialist system ensures the good health of triplets, who are a source of the country’s jubilation.
