Jong Chol Ho, head of the Gynaecological Tumour Department of the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital, played an important part in developing the country’s techniques of treating gynaecological tumours at an advanced level.
He graduated from Haeju College of Medical Sciences and finished a postgraduate course at Pyongyang University of Medical Sciences before he was assigned to the Pyongyang Maternity Hospital 15 years ago.
While treating various diseases in obstetrical and gynaecological and other departments, he decided to raise gynaecological oncology to an advanced level.
In the gynaecological oncotherapy, surgery can only be successful when not only cancer tissue but also the proliferating or metastasized areas around it are cleared. However, success is hardly expected without the surgeon’s correct operational methods and skills because the surrounding tissues are structurally very complex.
After he made painstaking efforts to find a highly successful and effective surgical method and master high operational skills, he finally succeeded in radical hysterectomy and pelvic lymphadenectomy and introduced them into clinical practice.
So far many women who were told that their days were numbered have been benefitted from the advanced surgical method.
He performs more than 100 operations every year and his department has treated uterine cervix, uterine corpus carcinoma, ovaries carcinoma, vulva carcinoma and other malignant diseases, helping the patients to survive longer.
“Jong faces up to any difficult operation without hesitation, and saves lives with confident operation,” said a co-worker called Ri Song Rim.
He provides service to outpatients, as well as those in provincial, city and county hospitals through the telemedicine system. Also, he often visits factories, enterprises and institutions to examine their female workers and give timely treatment to those with gynaecological tumours.
“Women’s health is directly linked to their families’ happiness. I will try to further improve my clinical skills to protect women’s health,” said Jong.
He is called a “renowned doctor conquering refractory diseases.” He as ever devotes himself to medical service for women.
