Last year the rail transport sector overfulfilled its freight transport plan and finished its reinforcement and readjustment task in the main.
The Pyongyang Railway Bureau transported hundreds of thousands of tons of freight more than its plan, giving priority to the supply of locomotives and freight cars and organizing the distribution of trains in good time. Engine drivers of the Kaechon, Chongjin and Rason Railway bureaus also transported more goods than their hauling capacity.
Meanwhile, the rail transport sector pushed ahead with the production and replacement of concrete sleepers and other railway fixtures.
Several concrete sleeper makers fulfilled their yearly production plans. The Wonsan Rolling Stock Factory and the Chongjin Railway Factory finished the technical updating of production lines with the main emphasis on increasing productivity and ensuring precision of products, thus bringing about innovations in the production of fixtures.
All the railway bureaus improved the safety of train operation by repairing tunnels, bridges, retaining walls and other structures in a qualitative way and replacing a large amount of fixtures including more than one million sleepers.
The Kim Jong Thae Electric Locomotive Complex did its part in improving the technical conditions of locomotives and the Pyongyang Rolling Stock Repair Factory also carried out its annual wagon repair plan ahead of schedule by actively introducing valuable technical innovation proposals including the newly established production line of wagon axle box.
