The Mining Engineering Institute under the Academy of Coal Science has developed an advanced method of pit perpetuation that can be applied to anthracite mines.
The method helps to reinforce the rock bed around the pit by fastening rock bolts, injecting cement slurry and lining shotcrete support so that it can support the pit.
The researchers made a deep study of the world trend and literature concerning pit maintenance techniques and the situation of anthracite mines in the country in order to perpetuate pits with a small amount of steel materials. Through such deep inquiry they chose the innovative plans to confirm the construction materials, means and methods.
Accordingly, they completed the binding structure of rock bolts with spiral fixing points and confirmed the relevant mechanical building and distribution method. They also developed rock bolt adhesives and invented hole filler, feeding pumps and other construction devices.
This method was applied to a 100-metres-long section of the February 8 Jiktong Youth Coal Mine on a trial basis and its scientific efficacy was proved through months of observation.
Encouraged by this success, they introduced the method to many other coal mines with good results this year.
The method helps to significantly cut the cost for main drift maintenance as it requires no timber and much less rolled steel compared with steel support.
Given that the main drift can be maintained for more than five years without repair after the introduction of the method, it can greatly save labour, materials and fund.
Currently, many anthracite mines are introducing the method.
