Last year the scientists at the Academy of Agricultural Science made remarkable scientific achievements conducive to increasing grain production.
In a bid to help farms actively cope with disastrous abnormal weather conditions, the academy compiled technical manuals and reference books according to regions, seasons and farming processes and disseminated them through the national network. And it organized sci-tech lectures effectively in the form of video conference.
It helped farms introduce new techniques of high-yielding wheat cultivation, nutrition management and so on. In the meantime its officials and researchers went down to farms and timely solved technical problems arising in the production of composite nutritional agents for rice seedbed and efficacious slow-acting fertilizers, thereby contributing to increasing rice production and effectiveness of fertilizers.
The researchers improved the accuracy of the assessment of estimated output of paddy rice, wheat, barley and maize by using satellite images, aerial photos and crop growth simulation technology, making it possible to estimate the grain output across the country in a more scientific way.
Research work conducive to the country’s agricultural development was conducted in a many-sided way.
The Rice Institute and Sci-tech Dissemination Office intensified research work to introduce high-yield species. They introduced the method of cultivating nutritive cold-bed rice seedlings, which requires less investment and is highly profitable, to a large area of paddy field. And the Field Crop Institute and the Maize Institute bred superior strains which are high in per-hectare yield, short in growth period and strongly resistant to diseases.
The Agrochemistry Institute and the Agrobiology Institute and others under the academy developed and introduced labour-saving and cost-saving agricultural technical products such as stimulants for shortening ripening period, fertilizers, seed coating materials and agrochemicals which can increase the 1 000-grain weight and ripening rate of crops.
