is bounded by Pongsan, Unpha, Rinsan and Sohung counties of North Hwanghae Province.
Nestling in midstream of the Sohung River flowing along the middle of the Chailbong Mountains, it is a picturesque artificial lake called the “sea of North Hwanghae Province.”
The area is surrounded by relatively high mountains.
Pine, daimyo oak, chestnut, black walnut and other trees grow thick on the mountains around the lake, and apricot, azalea and Korean golden bell are in full bloom in spring, adding beauty to the surrounding scenery.
And the forests are home to roe deer, raccoon dog, badger, wild boar, hare, pheasant, cuckoo, woodpecker, crested lark and bush warbler.
The lake is inhabited by dozens of species of fish such as silver carp, catfish, mandarin fish, carp and crucian carp.
The blue water of the lake presents beautiful scenery in harmony with high and low mountains including Mt Ku (507m).
Covering an area of 15.71 km 2 , it is 87.9km around, 19.6km long and 0.8km wide. The crystal-clear lake flows along the 1 200km-long waterway into Pongsan and Unpha counties and the city of Sariwon of North Hwanghae Province to irrigate the fields in these areas.
A climbing route stretches along the cliff at the lakeside, and a rest home, camp and pleasure ground sit in the scenic spots at the foot of Mt Ku.
Every scenic spot has a pavilion, recreation ground, playground, angling site and bathing beach.
