Greeting the holiday of February with great delight and joy, our people are looking back with deep emotion on the endless devotion of Chairman Kim Jong Il who dedicated his whole life to the country and people without any moment of rest, even on his birthdays.

In February 1963, the period of Chairman’s revolutionary activities at Kim Il Sung University, the university students hoped to have a celebration for his birthday, though frugally.

On that significant day, the Chairman said that he takes their wish very grateful, but he cannot celebrate his birthday when the President was sparing no effort for the country’s prosperity and people’s happiness. Then he gave valuable teaching that a revolutionary should find true happiness in easing the leader’s concerns and burdens, and that a revolutionary’s life would be a worthwhile one when it was dedicated to the leader.

Bearing in mind the vow made on that day, he paid a field visit on his birthday six years later, in February 1969, to an orchard in Wonhwa-ri to turn it into an ideal and abundant socialist paradise true to the President’s will.

On his 40 th birth anniversary in 1982, he visited the Moranbong Stadium which was under reconstruction for expansion, despite the officials’ earnest request. He told the officials that the most relieved and the happiest moment for him is when he sees the satisfactory looks of the President.

On February 16, 1999, at the turn of the last year of the 20 th century, he set out for his field guidance on army units. In the morning that day, he visited an anti-aircraft machine gun company of female soldiers situated in a remote mountain. He looked around several places of the company and bestowed fatherly affection lest they feel any inconvenience in their life.

In the afternoon on the same day, he was at the snowy training field of a military unit, personally giving guidance on skiing training of the military personnel and their families. He also took measures to send them good skiing equipment as souvenirs of the training.

Putting aside the people’s earnest wish that he would rest at least on his birthdays, he spent even his birthday which comes only once every year as ordinary days for the country’s prosperity and people’s happiness. Thanks to the great and deep love and trust of him, everyone born on this land has enjoyed blessed life envied by the world people.

The history of love and devotion, carried forward through generations as we hold in high esteem the greatest and most benevolent leaders of the world, will continue forever.
