One day in October 1963 President Kim Il Sung visited the Pyongyang Fruit Farm.
After warmly shaking hands with the officials of the farm who came to greet him, he highly praised them for building up the farm wonderfully.
Feasting his eyes on the heavily laden fruit trees of the farm with arms akimbo, he said to the officials that whenever he saw the farm, he thought that he was right to have a fruit farm created there during the war (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953) with an eye to a distant future.
Then he calculated the amount of fruit, saying: The farm should increase the production of fruit so as to provide the citizens of Pyongyang with fruit every day; if one person takes a fruit a day, 365 fruits are needed for him for a year, which will weigh about 50kg; in other words, when a person is provided with 50kg of fruit a year, he can eat fruit every day.
Later on, he inspected the farm several times and clarified the orientation and ways for increasing fruit production.
