The first-year tasks for implementing the "Regional Development 20×10 Policy" put forward by the Workers' Party of Korea were carried out and regional-industry factories were inaugurated in 20 cities and counties between December 20 last year and February 11 this year.
A foodstuff factory, a daily necessities factory and a garment factory were also built in Jangphung County of Kaesong.
Since Jangphung County is situated in the southernmost part of the country, material exchanges were not brisk. And since it is a mountain county, it has a small area of farmland and poor economic foundation.
But modern regional-industry factories have been built, actively promoting the economic development of the county and the improvement of the local people's living.
The foodstuff factory produces various kinds of bread and other foodstuffs including milk biscuits, starch jelly coated with perilla seeds, jujube juice and ginger sweets and basic foodstuffs. The garment factory produces clothes such as the "Okgusul"-trademarked padded clothes for peasants.
The daily necessities factory produces furniture, different sizes of plastic pipes, fragrant soap and colourful kitchenware.
The wonderful factories built in the county and all sorts of goods produced there evoke admiration of the local people.
-We are very pleased to see the goods produced in our county, which could be seen at public service amenities in towns.
-Fine feathers make fine birds. All people in Jangphung would look handsome.
-This mountain county can be as rich as towns.
Such words of compliments are not heard only in Jangphung County.
Women in Ichon County of Kangwon Province lavished praises on the household goods, saying they are as good as those produced in the capital city because they are really useful and have beautiful colours and patterns. Inhabitants in Kim Hyong Jik County of Ryanggang Province said those products are more valuable and of pride as they were produced by the county itself with locally available raw and other materials. People in Unsan County of North Phyongan Province said they have more prides of special products in the mountain county after the construction of the regional-industry factories.
All people boast of their local products in the regions with new regional-industry factories.
"These are our products."
These heartfelt words by the people from all parts of the country represent their boundless gratitude to the Workers' Party of Korea and their belief in the future of regional rejuvenation to be brighter.
