The area of Mt Paektu has plenty of conditions that can be served for developing Mt Paektu area as a characteristic combined four-season mountainous tourist resort.
In July, last year, the respected General Secretary Kim Jong Un, on his visit to Samjiyon City, instructed that the grand nature of the Mt Paektu area consisting of mountains and primeval forests is our precious resource, of which we can feel proud.
He gave important instructions for building a tourist resort in the world-famous Mt Paektu for our people and the world people and making tourism a major driving force of the development of the region.
Now, many people visit the sports village in Mt Paektu for winter sports activities.
The sports village which began its operation since December last year were visited by tends of thousands of tourists till now.
There, tourists can do various winter sports activities and entertainments such as skiing, skating and sledging.
On the peak of Pegae Hill, they can also enjoy pleasure and optimism as greatly as they feel in skiing or skating.
It is said that trees cannot grow well around the skiing ground in an alpine region with thin air.
But the Pegaebong Ski Resort is located at an altitude suited to skiing and it is surrounded by many trees, so has a peculiar scenic beauty.
And the Phothae area, an undeveloped area in the city, can be regarded as a suitable area for mountain tourism for sports and experience for its large amount of snowfall and natural, geographical, meteorological and climatic conditions.
Under the care of Party, a skiing ground and holiday camp will be built with Mt Pukphothae as a centre, Samjiyon Airport be remodelled and a tourist railway be laid.
In the near future, the ski resort in the Mt Pukphothae area will be built as a cultural tourist centre, which perfectly embodies the people-first architectural ideals of the Party, serves the people and clearly reflects their demands and which will be frequented by them.
