Production is well under way at the modern regional-industry factories built in 20 cities and counties as the first physical result in the drive for regional rejuvenation.
Although only a few months have passed since those factories started operation, there has been a remarkable progress in improving the technical skills of their employees and cementing their foundations for normal production.
On-the-spot technical assistance was provided by the scientists and technicians from Kim Chaek University of Technology, Pyongyang Han Tok Su University of Light Industry, Pyongyang University of Mechanical Engineering and the Academy of Food and Consumer Goods Industries under the Ministry of Regional Industry.
They are working hard to find solutions to the technical problems arising in enhancing the scientific level in management, lowering the cost of production and improving the quality of products, while offering lectures and workshops for raising the qualifications of employees as suited to the actual conditions.
A large number of workers have been enrolled in the study-while-you-work system, and many of them have raised their technical skills a level higher.
The highly-skilled workers from industrial establishments in the capital city who have been dispatched to the regional-industry factories are also transferring their techniques and skills to the local employees and advancing innovative ideas conducive to increasing the variety of consumer goods.
In cooperation with the technical personnel the regional-industry factories across the country are striving to produce new products unique to their regions.
The Songchon County Foodstuff Factory produces jam and jelly with Songchon chestnut which has been well-known from olden times and the Sukchon County Foodstuff Factory situated by the West Sea of Korea turns out various kinds of pickled fish products such as pickled shellfish and anchovies. Foodstuff factories in Kim Hyong Jik and Tongsin counties manufacture tasty beverages with such fruits as wild pear and grapes abundant in their localities. Those in Kosan and Jaeryong counties churn out bottled apple and pear jam, bar rice-cake, black glutinous rice paste mixed with chili powder and others.
The daily necessities and garment factories are also working to produce a wide range of high-quality specialities, including laundry soap with the aroma of rose or iris, colourful plastic containers, furniture and clothes.
