Forest creation and conservation are actively promoted as an important policy of the state in the Democratic People's Republic of Korea mostly covered with mountains.
Lots of trees of good species suitable to the climatic and soil conditions of the regions concerned are planted and cultivated every year to transform the appearance of the country. More than one million hectares of forests have been created over the past ten years through forest restoration campaign.
Last year alone, persistent efforts were made to put the sapling production on a scientific, industrialized and intensive basis, raising over two billion saplings of more than 100 kinds throughout the country.
Modern tree nurseries have been built in the provinces, cities and counties and forest science research bases in different parts of the country, making a contribution to turning all the mountains into "gold mountains" and "treasure mountains".
