It was at midnight years ago when a woman was carried to the obstetrical and gynaecological department of the Central District Hospital.
The woman was in a critical state as she had slipped into a coma from severe postpartum bleeding.
Doctor Choe Hak Myong who was on duty took emergency measures and placed the woman under the knife. The hours-long operation proved successful.
Afterwards, he went on with procedures observing the patient’s conditions at her bedside.
While applying effective methods to her treatment and improving her nutritional conditions, Choe treated other diseases unknown to the patient herself.
“It seemed to me that he is my father or brother. I am very impressed by his medical skills,” said the woman when she left the hospital in good health.
This opinion of hers is shared by many other women in the district.
Over the past two decades Choe has come up with dozens of inventions and ideas conducive to the obstetric and gynaecological treatment and applied them to clinical practice with good results in the treatment of many pregnant women, nursing mothers and newborns.
In recent years alone, he has established a comprehensive postpartum haemorrhage management method, making it possible to minimize bleeding in different operations and take safe procedures.
Choe also unsparingly transferred his experience and skills to newcomers, ensuring that his department has taken the lead in the introduction of advanced medical science and technology among the district (county) hospitals across the country.
In the course of this, he was awarded a master’s degree in medicine and the title of meritorious person of socialist patriotism.
“Whenever I see nursing mothers leaving the hospital in good health with their loving babies, I feel pride as an obstetrician,” Choe said.
