There took place the first graduation ceremony of the then Faculty of Physics and Mathematics of Kim Il Sung University in December 1949. The university was the first of its kind in Korea that was built the year after its liberation (August 15, 1945) from Japan's military rule.
At the event Comrade Kim Il Sung delivered a speech, titled Be Native Cadres Equipped with Advanced Science, Technology and Patriotism .
In his speech he gave thanks to the teaching staff of the university for sending out its first graduates for the benefit of the country and the people, and warmly congratulated the graduates on having successfully completed the course at the highest academic institution in the Republic after making untiring efforts during the past four years and going full of hope to workplaces to assist in building an independent and sovereign democratic state.
He said: In the Republic talented people are by far the most precious asset. You must not forget that genuine talents are trained through contending with difficulties and become staunch men braving any hardships fearlessly.
He earnestly called on them to actively display their creative initiative and patriotic devotion for the country and people and advance vigorously to win fresh victories.
