Taesong District, Pyongyang, has set up a line of producing bricks and blocks by using coal muck, which helps it push forward its rural housing construction project.
These bricks and blocks were highly appreciated at the 37th National Sci-tech Festival last year for their advantages such as availability of a rich source of raw materials, less cost and protection of ecological environment.
In the past different units worked on projects to establish brick and block production lines based on coal muck instead of clay.
Officials and technicians in the district set a goal to solve the problem of producing bricks and blocks necessary for rural housing construction by their own efforts and technology and buckled down to research work.
Despite repeated failures, they redoubled efforts and finally succeeded in building a tunnel kiln at the Taesong Ceramic Factory, thus laying a solid foundation for steadily pushing ahead with production while saving funds and fuel.
The bricks and blocks produced by the factory were scientifically proved to be much stronger than ordinary clay bricks. They have been used to build hundreds of rural dwelling houses in the district, saving a large amount of building materials.
Now officials and technicians are pursuing a higher goal to produce diverse and quality building materials including colour blocks and pavement blocks.
