It is the invariable intention and will of the Workers’ Party of Korea to make the DPRK the most advanced nation in education.

Educational issues are brought up as major agenda items at important Party and state meetings.

The educational issues were separately dealt with in December 2024 at the 11th Plenary Meeting of the Eighth WPK Central Committee geared to setting the orientation of the development of the Party and state affairs in 2025. At the meeting it was noted that education is a state affair of paramount importance to which priority should be given with tremendous efforts at any time and at any stage.

In retrospect, the DPRK has paid great attention to education since its inception.

Education did not halt even a moment during the hard-fought Fatherland Liberation War (June 25, 1950-July 27, 1953). Later on, unsparing efforts have been directed to developing education with enforcement of excellent educational policies.

The universal 12-year compulsory education was enforced, the Children’s Union camps and children’s palaces renovated, and factories built across the country to make school bags, uniforms and footwear, with the result that all the students around the country are provided with quality and smart uniforms, Mindulle -brand notebooks, Sonamu -brand shoulder bags and school things.

Last year a special measure was taken to ensure that children and students in the flood-stricken areas in North Phyongan, Jagang and Ryanggang provinces were taken to the capital city of Pyongyang and the state entirely covered the cost of their upbringing and education.

The importance of education is more highlighted today when the country strives to achieve overall development of socialism.

Practical measures are being taken to modify the educational structure of the country in such a way as to give advanced education, and to improve the contents and methods of education more rationally. Reserve educators are being trained in a far-sighted way, and the socialist policy for the benefit of the students is consistently in force.

The 11th Plenary Meeting of the Eighth WPK Central Committee set forth the tasks for putting the country’s educational foundation on a new higher level in the shortest period of time, including renovating all schools across the country in the coming decade by channelling the state’s efforts into the endeavour.

The measures taken at the plenary meeting and the follow-ups clearly show the noble intention of the WPK to work towards getting the state fully responsible for the provision of every possible condition to educators and students for working and studying. And they also bode well for the country’s educational development in the near future.
